My writing teacher, after reading my jingle.scratch.delete post suggested that instead of deleting I just write through the annoying sounds and even write about the distraction. Descrive the distractions.
So right now I am writing through the annoying sound of slow jamz coming from my neighbors garage. He has friends over and his wife is out of town. He is sitting in his truck in the driveway listening to music with his friends. It is awful. Its like the beats I would hear through my apartment in Austin every Saturday night when the guy below would bring friends over after the bars closed. I thought one of the benefits of living in the country was not having to listen to another person's music on a Saturday night. Well, it is 8:30. And both of my children are sleeping through it. Its probably 10 times louder in my head than it actually is.
My husband picks the absolute worst stuff to watch on TV. Can you believe that there is a channel on ESPN that actually plays old games? Games that happened years ago that Norm watched or maybe even attended. And he watches them again. Pretty much everything is bothering me tonight. I asked Norm to change the channel several times. And he always ends up on sporting events or the dumbest movie you can imagine. I don't know which movie because he has managed to find several dumb movies tonight. And then I ask him to change it and he says he didn't know I was watching. And then he looks for something else and finds another sporting event. I just got mad at him again and he said, "but you are writing" and I said, "yes, you jerk. I am writing about all of the stupid shows you make me watch."
My writing teacher is probably right, its better to write through distractions and even write about the distractions. Just as long as you keep writing. But it's probably better for my marriage if in the future I write in the other room.
