After a long drive to San Diego and back, the last thing I wanted to do was explain to my daughter which house we were going to - grandma's house, grandma's beach house, kiki's house or our house. As I tried to mumble my way through which house we were going to and who was going to be there and why every person that she has ever met wasn't going to be there, she kept coming at me with loud, "HUHs?!?!" when she wasn't sure exactly what I was saying or whether or not it was pleasing to her plans for the day ahead.
It made me wonder whether old people really lose their hearing or just don't like the answers they are getting. Josie has always been a wise soul but I think she truly an old soul. A busy, judgemental, picky old bitty with the energy of a two year old that has an iv filled with red bull permanently attached to her arm. But to her credit, her tactics are very effective. After about 40 "Huhs?!?" I gave in and just started telling her what she wanted to hear - that we were going home to Morgan Hill for the night and coming back to the beach tomorrow where the whole world would be waiting in the sand to play with her.
Fortunately, she forgot my promise. By the time we pulled into the garage at the beach house she was focused so intently on not going to bed that she forgot about worrying where she wanted to be.
