Babs

I wise old woman told me, "I am not political, but I am not stupid." She was describing how in 80 years of working and being a nun she was able to navigate her way through a political world that she didn't always feel like she belonged in. Chit chat and banter always confused her and seemed to have no place in a world where there were so many more important things to discuss.

I guess there was a reason I have kept in touch with a woman so many years older and so many life experiences apart from me. We are kindred spirits. Maybe friends from another life. Every time I meet with her, I walk away with some gem, some bit of wisdom that I already knew but never had anyone to truly share it with. As I learn more about her, I learn more about myself. Sometimes the lesson are hard, some of the pills are hard to swallow, but I always leave her a better person.

  1. love her. once she called me into my office about my decision to move to New York. The first thing she asked me was if I had a boyfriend, and then frankly explained that I would have a lot of growing up to do before/while I go to NY. I'm not sure I met all of her expectations! She's definitely a gem!
