My daughter is terrified of sleeping alone at my parents house. I have found that its easier to sleep in the other twin bed in her room then get up several times in the night to soothe her. That way I can just sit up in bed and whisper harshly to be quiet and go to bed. Through the thin rays of light that peep through the shutters, I can see a satisfied smile on her face. Another victory. The score is now Josie 934 - Mom 3.
When Josie was just two months old, I came down to my parents for our first visit. When I would put her to bed there, she fussed unusually long. But I realized if I stayed in the room and folded clothes or breathed loudly while I read a book, she would drift quietly to sleep. She just liked knowing someone was there while she fell asleep in a seemingly unfamiliar place.
Tonight, I told her I was going to do some cleaning and fold clothes in the other room. I told her I would be very close by. That she should go to sleep and when I was ready for bed I would get in the bed right next to her and sleep there all night.
"Okay," she said and I quietly raised my hands declaring victory over tonight's bedtime battle. "I'll wait," she said as I just about to close the door.
Josie shoots and scores with less than a second left in the game. Josie 935 - Mom - 3.
